Thao Nguyen Scores 'American Teacher' Film

Thao Nguyen clearly likes to keep her schedule full. If she's not recording a collaborative album with Mirah, she's plotting her next move with her band, the Get Down Stay Down. And as if that's not enough, Nguyen is also honing her chops in the film-scoring department. She composed and recorded the entire score for American Teacher, a documentary that centers on the lives of four teachers: Erik Benner, Jonathan Dearman, Jamie Fidler, and Rhena Jasey.

While showcasing various milestones in their young careers, the film also attempts to answer the question of whether or not these teachers can afford to stay in their profession. So you not only get to watch a pretty relevant film, but you also get to hear what should be some rad original tunes by Nguyen to boot. Sounds like a win to us.  It's narrated by Matt Damon and was based on a book by award-winning author Dave Eggers. It was directed by Oscar winner Vanessa Roth.
