Former My Super Sweet Sixteen star, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy bit player Teyana Taylor has been dropped from her six-year-long deal with Interscope and Pharrell's Star Trak without releasing a full-length album or EP. Taylor, who was signed to Star Trak when she appeared on Sweet Sixteen a few years ago, says she was held up by label politics, but the split was amicable.
“Everybody bowed out gracefully. There was no beef. I love Interscope, I love Star Trak. It’s always love for Pharrell; that’s my big brother. Now it’s time for me to go from a caterpillar to a butterfly. I had to fly away from the nest and venture out on my own.”
Taylor is readying her first official release, an EP, now that she's out from under the label, and is apparently talking to other labels. I guess the question becomes what can she offer after having one single, a few features, and appearing on an MTV show after six years of being signed to a major. The EP is due out on Feb. 29. [RapUp]
