Tenacious D work at sloth's pace towards new album

This is not the greatest Tenacious D album update in the world. After the financial flop of 2006's Pick of Destiny movie/soundtrack, the latest musical work by Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the D is "one and a half songs" into their new album, which will require 12-15 songs in total.

One and a half songs over two years? Axl Rose works at a faster pace. But the band is not feeling any pressure to work any faster. According to Gass, "It might take the rest of our lives, but I think it'll be worth waiting for." Does that mean Tenacious D will end up writing the greatest song in the world? Gass thinks it's worth trying for:

"We'd like to do one final masterpiece, I think," he acknowledged. "I think we both know we're approaching death, as it were, and we'd like to have a lasting legacy. ('The Pick of Destiny') was kind of a soundtrack to the movie so we had to fulfill obligations that way. And now it's kind of opened up."

More likely Jack Black will continue to focus on releasing 9-figure box office smashes. Gass, who turns 48 on Monday, has been getting by quite nicely by shooting eco-friendly videos for GM. Not as glamorous as Black's life, but as Jason Bateman's character in Juno showed, is almost as profitable.
