Influential experimental Swans are geared to release a new double album, To Be Kind, on May 13. That’s the surface news, as Swans’ frontman Michael Gira also points out St. Vincent sings on a few tracks, while Cold Specks and Little Annie are also featured. To Be Kind was recorded during October and December of 2013 – material was either worked out during live shows of the past tour (where Not Here Not Now came to be) or in a live studio setting).
The album will be ” a little over two hours long,” says Gira. It will be pressed to 3xLP, 2xCD, and a possible USB for the maximum quality format. Gira also announced a slew of solo dates in March, which you can find here.
The previous Swans album, The Seer, was also a mammoth in length, just shy of two hours in length. It was a overarching snapshot of all sounds of newer and older Swans material that stretched immensely over a grand scope. Listen to that album and you’ll lose your grip on sanity. That’s always the best kind of musical experience. Get madly excited about a new Swans album.
