Just when you thought the pre-July 4 news cycle was over, you get this gem from the towering headquarters of the Sub Pop conglomerate. For one year only beginning on Sub Pop's formal 20th birthday, the Sub Pop Singles Club will be entering it's third incarnation (or version 3.0, for those in a 21st century mindset).
The original Singles Club helped build Sub Pop from the ground up, with singles from defining grunge bands such as Mudhoney, Green River, and this one band that released a cover of an obscure song called "Love Buzz." The Singles Club made a well received revival in the late 90s before finally shutting down in 2002.
With a keen sense of the label's history Sub Pop will give Singles Club 3.0 a year, with 1,500 copies of singles released each week exclusively on a 7". The membership will cost $90. That's significantly more value than a candy dish, especially considering the roster, which will include Black Mountain, the Black Lips, Om, and the Notwist among other current stars of indie rock.
This birthday celebration keeps getting better and better.

This is awesome news. I was always confused as to why they stopped doing this in the first place.
