Since the annual event was founded in 2008, Sub Pop has been one of Record Store Day’s most enthusiastic supporters. And while the number of record stores still standing has dwindled considerably since then, the Seattle-based label will continue their support on April 20, offering exclusive vinyl releases from Beach House, Shabazz Palaces
and Blitzen Trapper.
“Lazuli,” the second advance single from Beach House’s forthcoming Bloom
(05/15), will be presented on blue vinyl and also includes the track “Equal Mind.” The 7” single is limited to 2,400 copies.
Blitzen Trapper, meanwhile, will release their single “Hey Joe” b/w “Skirts on Fire” on yellow vinyl in a limited quantity of 1,800 copies.
Shabazz Palaces’ record is a four-track, live EP spotlighting performances from the band’s 2011 session at KEXP (a radio station operated by the University of Washington). The 12” EP will be released on purple vinyl and is limited to 2,000 copies.
Sub Pop will also be distributing a free 16-track sampler on Record Store Day. The Terminal Sales Vol. 5: Mixed Nuts
compilation will include new and rare material from Beach House
and Shabazz Palaces, as well as Retribution Gospel Choir, THEESatisfaction, King Tuff and other artists from the label’s current roster.
