Streisand fundraiser raises millions for the Obama campaign

Endorsements from cooler music figures like the Decembrists, Jeff Tweedy, and Arcade Fire are nice, but Barbara Streisand puts people in the seats. The Funny Girl headlined a benefit for Barack Obama at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and the Democratic candidate added a cool nine million to his war chest. Attendees at the event included Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Ferrell, Jodie Foster and Jamie Lee Curtis as well as Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg, each of whom paid  $2500 dollars a ticket for a seat at the benefit (and some  $28,500 for a dinner beforehand). While other acts might encourage younger voters to hit the polls, it’s nice to see that longtime Democratic activist Streisand is still able to rally the Hollywood elite. [NME]

$9 million? Gotta give it to her, that's an impressive figure.
