J. Cole fans might remember that the Fayetteville, N.C. native recorded his own boom-bap version of the theme song for ESPN's Baseball Tonight back in June. Apparently, he wasn't the only artist the network reached out to deliver a new take on the track. Blink-182 drummer/hip-hop head Travis Barker churned out his own version of the theme, too.
And, as expected, the drums are pretty much what make it as Barker pummels his kit for the duration of the theme. Otherwise, his rework is a little too muddy, mostly because of the poorly mixed guitars and church organs. The percussion might be fierce and all, but it doesn't really work that well when you can only really hear the drums and little else. Cole's version isn't exactly overwhelmingly impressive either, but it certainly turned out better than Barker's.
But hey, that's just my take. You can stream the two themes below and vote on which you think is best here.
