Today's a good day for first listens at NPR. Divine Fits shared their debut, A Thing Called Divine Fits (out August 28) earlier today, and now Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti is sharing its latest release, Mature Themes (out August 21).
The album, which clocks in at nearly an hour, takes the same structure (or lack thereof) of Ariel Pink's older material. Some tracks seem based off a schizophrenic idea ("Is This The Best Spot," "Driftwood," "Schnitzel Boogie,") but there is a glimpse of convention in the title track and single, "Only In My Dreams."
The king of avant-pop, Ariel Pink has managed to create yet another otherworldly soundscape with this release.
