Not long ago, we let you know that the Stone Temple Pilots were back in action with a new album and tour on the way, though more specific information was tough to come by at the time. At last it can be told, the new album is called...wait for it...Stone Temple Pilots! Bet you didn't see that one coming. Hey, at least they didn't go for some cheesy, '80s-sounding comeback title like Back In Business or something. Though they're probably among the band's you'd consider least likely to retain their original lineup, all the members of classic-era STP are still on board for their first album since 2001's Shangri-La Dee Da (speaking of unfortunate album titles), and the new disc is set to come out May 25 on Atlantic.
The band has taken the production reins themselves for the record, though they've received some stalwart assistance from veteran mixer Chris Lord-Alge. According to the label, Stone Temple Pilots bears elements of heavy rock, psychedelia, pop, glam, and more. And the band will be supporting their latest release with a short string of dates in March to be followed by a longer tour in the summer; it all kicks off on 3/18 with an appearance at SXSW.
