Stevie Wonder pushes for more blind-friendly technology

Stevie Wonder has always been an early adopter (remember that Cosby Show episode when he blew the Huxtables’ minds with his Synclavier sampler? How awesome was that?). Now, he’s urging tech manufacturers to do more to help the blind make use of emerging technologies. The ex-Motown wunderkind/living legend, who has been blind since infancy, suggested that companies consider minor modifications to make products more user-friendly for those who cannot see.

"Being more accessible is always a plus," said Wonder. "For various companies that are working with this technology and making it exciting and accessible for people who can see, it would take very little to make it accessible to everyone.

Wonder also noted that as Baby Boomers and others become senior citizens, manufacturers will need to keep the ever expanding number of the sight impaired tech users in mind. "You have a growing number of people, aging people that will need things to be more accessible as well as the hundreds of thousands of blind people in the world," he said. "[S]o just let's keep it real." [NME]
