In a recent interview, legendary director Steven Spielberg opened up for the first time about his struggles with learning disabilities. Spielberg had apparently gone undiagnosed most of his life, and only recently learned that he has dyslexia. Growing up with a mysterious learning disability, Spielberg, looked to cinema for support.
“When I felt like an outsider, movies made me feel inside my own skill set,” he says. “I never felt like a victim,” he continues. “Movies really helped me … kind of saved me from shame, from guilt, from putting it on myself, from making it my burden when it wasn’t my burden.” Check out the interview in its entirety over at Quinn Bradlee’s FriendsOfQuinn.
