Laetitia Sadier and Tim Gane’s collective discography is so long that it would take a small army of researchers to track down every piece of limited edition green vinyl the pair have released over the years. But the once-prolific Stereolab has lain dormant for an unprecedented stretch of time, only surfacing for a couple of compilation albums (Fab Four Suture and Serene Velocity) since 2004’s Margerine Eclipse. The ‘lab members have kept themselves busy with a few notable projects during the hiatus, with Sadier’s Monade releasing the recent Monstre Cosmic album, and Gane teaming up with longtime creative partner Sean O’Hagan for some work on the soundtrack to the French comedy La Vie d’Artiste. There can be little doubt that they’d have also been mourning the passing of one of their biggest influences, Neu! drummer Klaus Dinger.
August 19 marks the long awaited reopening of the ‘lab with an album on 4AD titled Chemical Chords. The groop has always had a great way with titles, and songs such as “Neon Beanbag” and “Vortical Phonotheque” don’t sound like they’ll disappoint hardcore fans. Here’s the full track list:
