After rumors started flying this weekend about the title of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel, there’s finally some official confirmation. The studio, Paramount Pictures, has verified that the sequel to the 2009 reboot will be called Star Trek Into Darkness.
The news unofficially leaked late last week when an anonymous domain registry service registered the domain names “www.startrekintodarkness.com” and “www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com.” The highly anticipated sequel hits theaters on May 17 of next year and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller and Alicia Eve in addition to the original cast.
