Stanley Kubrick’s “Lost” Film Fully Restored, Headed For DVD & Blu-Ray

Almost 50 years later, the world will finally have a chance to see the first film of legendary director Stanley Kubrick. 1953’s Fear and Desire has been in circulation for some time, but copies, particularly high quality copies, have been quite difficult to come by. The director himself attempted to keep the film out of public view, calling it a “bumbling amateur film exercise.”

Now, thanks to Eureka, Kubrick aficionados will finally get this glimpse into the legend’s beginnings in filmmaking. An original negative of the film was found in Puerto Rico a couple of years back, and now, under the supervision of the Library of Congress, has been fully restored. Eureka is set to release the filmon DVD and Blu-ray next January. [Empire]
