Welcome to the latest edition of PIIQ's Music Monday, brought to you by PIIQ Headphones by Sony, a weekly series highlighting singles from artists across the board. This time around, we're highlighting the latest single and video from Cee-Lo Green's recently released The Lady Killer.
"Bright Lights Bigger City" finds the rapper-turned-crooner (and still sometimes-rapper) fully utilizing the hugeness of his voice for the track's catchy hook. He's also still holding on to that sing-song approach for the verses, something he has pulled off well since putting his rapping on the back-burner. It all complements (no pun, as he's looking sharp here) the funky "Billie Jean"-bass groove, sweeping strings, and pulsing synthesizers.
And even as the track itself is rather fetching as a throwback pop number, the cinematic, crisp visuals are what take it to another level. They might be slightly confusing at times -- is that woman shaving or polishing Green's head? What's up with the ending? But they ultimately fit the theme of "Bright Lights Bigger City," as you follow the singer on his ride through the shiny metropolis.
The Lady Killer is in stores now.
