Spinner Canada Compiles 10 Songs Disowned by Artists

So the Beastie Boys don’t like “Fight for Your Right (To Party).” R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe isn’t crazy about “Shiny Happy People.” If this sort of self-loathing by artists amuses you, you’ll definitely find a new article posted at AOL’s Canadian division of Spinner a lot of fun.

Titled “I Hate My Hit! 10 Songs Disowned by the People Who Made Them Famous,” it runs down a bunch of quotes by artists who are pretty unhappy with the work they created and have no qualms about speaking out about it.

A few observations: a lot of the songs the artists complain about are breakout hits or signature songs -- which makes you wonder if these artists realize that had they not done these songs, they might not be in the music business at all. There’s also one glaring omission: John Lennon’s hatred of several Beatles’ tunes he or Paul McCartney penned, including “Eight Days a Week,” “And You Bird Can Sing” (rumored to be included on “Beatles: Rock Band”) and “Hello Goodbye.”

The list is as follows:

Beastie Boys, 'Fight for Your Right (to Party)'

R.E.M., 'Shiny Happy People'

Radiohead, 'Creep'

Bobby McFerrin, 'Don't Worry Be Happy'

Robert Plant, 'Stairway to Heaven'

Nirvana, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

Sinead O'Connor, 'Nothing Compares 2 U'

France Gall, 'Les Sucettes'

Madonna, 'Like a Virgin'

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, 'Don't Do Me Like That'
