Spin has put out a list of the 50 greatest cover songs. If you didn't already know that Nirvana's "The Man Who Sold the World" is a David Bowie cover, educate yourself -- it's #1. Another pure-gold selection is Elliott Smith's "13," which was not written by Neil Young but Big Star. And the list wouldn't have been whole without Johhny Cash's take on Nine Inch Nail's "Hurt" and Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" Prince cover.

I'm totally bummed 80s teen icon Tiffny didn't make the list with her def cover of the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There." It's more worthy than Ben Folds doing "Tiny Dancer." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfNeSQUMtUE
