Here’s more bad news for music magazines: Spin has announced, after 26 years as a monthly magazine, that starting in March 2012, it will switch to a bi-monthly. The mag will be published only six times a year, but will expand to be a longer magazine, and actually be physically bigger.
This is obviously a sign of the times, but Spin’s creative director is spinning this (pun intended) as a response to the Internet, as Spin’s web presence will expand, and the news coverage of the magazine will mostly move to the web. The magazine will instead be more feature heavy. OK, I guess we’ll buy that. But it feels like we’re at the end of an era here. [NY Times]
