Apple fans who rushed out to buy the iPhone may be wishing they’d waited for the 3G model of Steve Jobs’ ingenious little creation. But while we wait for the June 9 launch of the 3G iPhone, current users can rejoice in the news that the Soulseek P2P service has become available on the device.
You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone to access iSlsk, and bookmarking creator Eric Castro’s blog is probably a good idea. Eliot Van Buskirk at Wired got a decent average download speed of 20 Kps through a WiFi connection and 10 Kps on AT&T’s Edge network. Castro talks about his creation here.
Naturally there have been a few early glitches in the software, most notably in the inability to upload files to the network, which has caused one angry Wired commenter to say: “The great thing about SoulSeek is that it is a file SHARING application, and allowing these ipod leechers in on it is tantamount to calling the cops on the network. I hope this project fails miserably.” Ouch.
Yea I felt the same way as you guys, sick of all the iPhone hoopla. Until I wrapped my paws around an iPhone for the first time last week and experienced what it's actually like to own a well designed cellular/internet/productivity/music device that not only looks and feels like a quality piece of hardware, but has a huge community behind it developing some amazing free applications. Of course unless you Jailbreak the shackles that AT&T and Apple have put in place you really won't get "the full blown iPhone experience", it's still quite a piece of work I must now admit!
Damn. Another reason for purchasing an iPhone.
I'm staying far, far away from those things. There is definitely such a thing as being TOO connected.
