Sony Lead Major Labels in Renewing YouTube Deal

Sony Music is the first of the four major record labels to renew its agreement with YouTube, assuring that its artists will remain on the popular video site. Though the financial terms of the deal were not released, it maintains the status quo with regard Sony’s property appearing on YouTube. In addition to featuring videos from artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Britney Spears, and Outkast, users’ video clips can contain the label’s songs. There’s no word yet on whether the other three labels will sign in the near future. Universal is reportedly close to working out a deal, but talks between Warner Music and YouTube broke down last month, leading to the removal of all the label’s clips from the site. [CNET]
