Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon Awakes From Two-Year Nap, Criticizes Radiohead For Pricing Model

Kim Gordon must really have issues with Radiohead. Sonic Youth's new album, The Eternal, is just over the horizon, but instead of talking about the all the neat new uses of feedback utilized on the disc or how much cooler simply owning a copy will make buyers, she took the time to fire the latest shots in sniping history at Radiohead. Gordon criticized the band for showing up smaller, poorer acts with the release of In Rainbows, which they sort of did...in 2007. She goes on to indict the whole process as simply a cynical marketing ploy. This is probably also true. Having released an album on the Starbucks label, Ms. Gordon should certainly be able to recognize one. [NME]

(gasp!) Someone criticized Radiohead?!! I thought maybe since it was Kim Gordon, the reports about this wouldn't be so heavily Radiohead-biased, but I guess I was wrong.

I think the kernel of brilliance here is that she waited until everyone was done criticizing Radiohead, and then went in for the kill.

I'm glad someone with a lot more clout than me said it, even a year and a half later.

Of course, this may help Sonic Youth's publicity too. Dammit! The marketing cycle never ends!
