New Sonic Youth in "early 2009"

I am fish, news of new Sonic Youth album is barrel.

Speaking to NME after a recent New York show, Thurston Moore had the following to say about the band’s future prospects: “We’ve been taking a nice sort of break, which is good. I’ve been actually able to escape into the basement. We’re going to Australia next week for about two weeks then we’ll come back and start writing.”

The (presumptive) album, which would be Sonic Youth’s sixteenth LP and the follow-up to 2006’s Rather Ripped, has been “tentatively penciled in” for an “early 2009” release. [Drowned in Sound]

2009 is a long wait, but there's a lot of SY-related stuff that's been hinted at for 2008. Like the HITS ARE FOR SQUARES "starbucks" collection, a Free Kitten reunion album (apparently minus Ibold), SYR's 7 & 8, and there's even been rumors of a CD reissue of MASTER-DIK. Not to mention the buttloads of side-projects. Love 'em.
