It’s been a long hot summer full of free live music for New Yorkers. The Sunday schedule at McCarren Park Pool has been particularly impressive this year, with Liars, Fuck Buttons, Ronnie Spector, the Hold Steady, and the Breeders all having played. The fun hasn’t stopped yet, but this is the last summer of shows at the pool, and the organizers are announcing the final acts to play at McCarren.
First up is a free show on Sunday August 10, which features The Felice Brothers, Langhorne Slim, Eli “Paperboy” Reed & the True Loves, and Deer Tick. Also announced is a Sonic Youth show on August 30, which is likely to be one of the last concerts in the venue. You’ll have to stump up $35.00 to see Thurston, Kim, Steve, Lee, and Mark (Ibold) do their thing. The full schedule for the remaining shows can be found here. [Brooklyn Vegan]
I'll miss the Pool shows. Always a good time....
whoa snubbed Death Cab and Rogue Wave in that list!
I was just listing the free shows. The Death Cab/Rogue Wave show was $42.50 a ticket.
So this is it, huh? It's definitely the last year?
you're right Nick, they were. It's filthy. I was given tickets but then couldn't go so I sold them for $25. I'm a martyr.
I think there are still people fighting to keep it open for shows next year, but I believe as of now it's going to become a swimming pool.
