NOISE: Fiction Inspired by Sonic Youth is exactly what you think it is. Editor Peter Wild assembled a bunch of writerly folks together to write short stories based on specific Sonic Youth titles. This sounds like it could be not-so-great, but the contributors include National Book Award finalist Jess Walter, Mary Gaitskill, Emily Maguire, Shelley Jackson, and other writers whose work normally includes experimental and transgressive fiction. Story topics include the Thompkins Square Riots, serial killers obsessed with Doctor Zhivago, and Patty Hearst watching the end of the world on television. Not sure what any of that has to do with Sonic Youth, but it should be interesting to find out. The book also features an introduction penned by Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo
