Via:NMESonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon has stated that the band might be leaving Geffen, the label they've been working with since 1990. On December 11, Sonic Youth will release The Destroyed Room: B-sides and Rarities, a mish-mash of tracks from compilations, international releases and vinyl singles, as well as some unreleased material. This album will fulfill the band's current contract with Geffen, and Gordon isn't so sure a new one will be signed:
"I don't really think they want us to stay. They fired a few key people working on ('Rather Ripped') a week before it came out, (including) our A&R person - he worked on our last record with us, and that was the first time we had an A&R person in five years, but we liked him. Also a marketing person who had really good ideas. So, I don't know."
That sound you hear is all the independent labels in the universe licking their chops at the possibilities...
