Ryan Lott is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who is all over the place, composing music for NY-based new music ensemble yMusic, in an electronic-ish trio with Sufjan Stevens and Serengeti, and more places than we need to list here. Lott has announced the release of his third LP from, arguably, his most exciting project: Son Lux.
“Lost It To Trying,” the first taste of Lanterns, sounds more akin to his 2011 release We Are Rising, than the more electronic-hued At War With Walls & Mazes. Densely layered vocals float over an electronics backed ensemble, with horns and flutes fluttering through some dynamic interplay of a drummer and drum programming, creating a Frankenstein monster of electronics and contempoary classical sounds.
Lanterns will be released through Joyful Noise Records on October 29. Listen to “Lost It To Trying” below, as well as a, I’ll say avant-garde, interview that the label posted to their Soundcloud page today.
