According to a report from NME, navy officers have been using Britney Spears' music to scare off Somali pirates off the coast of east Africa. Her hit songs such as "Oops! I Did It Again" and "...Baby One More Time" have been blasting away at the direction of said pirates.
"Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most. These guys can’t stand Western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can," says Rachel Owens a merchant navy officer.
In addition to Owens' statement, Steven Jones from the Security Association for the Maritime Industry added "Pirates will go to any lengths to avoid or try to overcome the music." He continued, "I’d imagine using Justin Bieber would be against the Geneva Convention."
Whether or not this is some form of viral marketing, it sure makes good use of her hit music. Her new album Britney Jean is going to be released on December 3, 2013. Listen to her new single "Work Bitch" right here.
