via EngadgetI worked at Rasputin's record store sometime in the past (music blogger? worked at a record store? shocking!) Nothing would inspire my murderous rage more than a person walking into the store, humming three bars of some track, and expecting me to identify it.
The folks at Nayio claims to have built some sort of idiot savant software that can actually identify tracks based on your off-key humming. I guess if the Karaoke Revolution video game can score your singing, it's not so unfathomable that this might work. I'm sure if it does some one will work it into a kiosk, and record store clerks around the world will give praise.
