Earlier this year, it was announced that Jay Z had dropped the hyphen from his moniker.  It can be debated whether or not this could be considered a proper name change.  But, one of the biggest name changes in the music world in recent history happened not very long ago—when Snoop Dog switched to another animal and “reincarnated” as Snoop Lion.  This was to market a new image for himself because the California rapper was turning to a new genre: reggae.  Now, Snoop Lion is moving toward another another new genre: funk.  So, I guess for Calvin Broadus, every new genre deserves a new moniker.

He is now known as Snoopzilla.

Today, a new song was released on iTunes entitled “Faden Away.”  The track is the first single off 7 Days of Funk, a new collaborative project with “Snoopzilla” and groove singer Dam-Funk7 Days of Funk will be out on December 10th on Stones Throw Records.
