"Smells Like Teen Spirit" Re-Release Shooting For Christmas No. 1

After originally dropping in 1991 on Nirvana's seminal album Nevermind, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is once again looking to make an impact on the charts. Supporters of the track have launched a 'campaign' to increase the chances of "Teen Spirit" hitting the Number One Christmas spot in the United Kingdom. The song is to be re-released as a limited edition seven-inch with the hopes of debuting ahead of this year's X-Factor winner. On Dec. 5, the band's Facebook pageposted about the campaign, confirming the release and its support of children's charity, Rhythmix. In 2009, a similar battle for the holiday Number One took place between supporters of Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the Name" and that year's X-Factor winner, Joe McElderry. Rage came out on top, and Nirvana campaigners are looking for the same result. [NME]
