Pumpkins pluck Explosions in the Sky as openers

The Smashing Pumpkins' early nineties alt-rock sound might not be the zeitgeist anymore, but it seems that Billy Corgan still has his finger on the pulse of cool new music. Corgan had spazz rock noise/news makers Deerhunter open for the Pumpkins during their recent residency in Asheville, NC. And now comes word that instrumental rockers Explosions in the Sky will serve as openers for the last leg of the Pumpkins' '07 North American tour. After the two bands play together at Osheaga and both Virgin festivals, EITS will join up again with the Pumpkins October 11 in Columbus, OH. Reference this past post for the rest of the dates you can catch the two bands together after that.
