The sad passing of Paul Gray at the end of May left Slipknot fans mourning the death of the band’s bass player. Now, more details surrounding his demise have emerged, and it transpires that Gray overdosed on a lethal combination of morphine and the narcotic painkiller fentanyl.
E! Online is reporting that Polk County Medical Examiner Dr. Gregory Schmunk issued a death certificate on Friday (June 18) confirming the cause of death. A hypodermic needle and pills were reportedly found near the body in the hotel room Gray was staying in, which ties in with this diagnosis, although the coroner determined the pills played no part in his death.
Schmunck also confirmed that Gray was suffering from heart disease prior to his death at TownePlace Suites in a suburb of Des Moines. Urbandale police spokesman Sgt. Dave Disney has confirmed that charges may be filed in relation to Gray’s death, although who this concerns isn’t yet clear.
