New bands get formed all of the time, but not all of them contain two-thirds of beloved and sadly indefinite-hiatus stricken punkers Sleater-Kinney. Today, Merge announced the formation and signing of Wild Flag, a supergroup of sorts that consists of Sleater-Kinney members Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein, in addition to Helium leader Mary Timony and Minders member Rebecca Cole. The band acts as a bit of a reunion for these musicians--Helium was a frequent tour partner of Sleater-Kinney, and The Minders opened up for S-K on several occasions as well.
According to Merge, the band will begin recording their debut album in early 2011. You can check out Merge's official statement regarding the band, which includes their first round of tour dates here.
