A quick look at the comments on this post on Slash’s cover of “Paradise City” with Cypress Hill and Fergie tells you everything you need to know. Needless to say, hardened Guns N’ Roses fans are not happy with Slash’s treatment of the song, and it appears the guitarist’s talent has gone the same way as that of his former singer, Axl Rose.
Slash hasn’t yet announced whether the song will appear on his upcoming solo album, Slash & Friends, which is due for release early next year. The prospect of that album actually being any good now looks distinctly remote, although it does feature a vaunted guest appearance from Alice Cooper.
Slash has done what all 21st century musicians must do when they are slighted, and has taken to Twitter to defend his actions regarding “Paradise City.” He writes: “Until now, not too many people have heard Fergie sing Rock & Roll but she sings it better than most dudes I know. She's a screamer at heart.” Somehow, that’s not likely to be enough to satisfy the baying mob of angry Guns N’ Roses fans.
