Relations between Slash and Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose may be strained, but that hasn’t stopped the guitarist from weighing in on this week’s Chinese Democracy leak. Blogger Kevin Cogill was arrested by the FBI after posting nine songs from the upcoming album on his website, and may face a possible jail sentence and a $250,000 fine. Cogill is currently out on bail. Slash has spoken to the LA Times about the incident, in which Cogill has become the first Californian to fall foul of the federal anti-piracy law that was passed three years ago. “I hope he rots in jail,” says the Velvet Revolver guitarist. “It’s going to affect the sales of the record and it’s not fair. The internet is what it is, and you have to deal with it accordingly, but I think if someone goes and steals something, it's theft." Slash’s comments are surprisingly empathic considering the bad blood that has flowed between him and Rose in the past. Perhaps he’s just got a lot of time on his hands while Velvet Revolver auditions new vocalists? [LA Times]
