Many benefit concerts for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti have already been established, and a slew of audio recordings are set to follow. U2 and Jay-Z already have something special planned, and now Simon Cowell is getting in on the action in the U.K.
In an unusual move, the single Cowell is masterminding was commissioned by Prime Minister Gordon Brown—which is surely the first time a head of state has responded to a crisis by commissioning pop music to save the day. Cowell’s Band Aid-style venture will likely draw on a number of big names.
"We haven't got an awful lot of time," he said. "But we are going to do something and attempt to raise as much money as possible. I've got to try and get it all together in about 48 hours." Among the names rumored to be on Cowell’s radar are Beyonce, Lady GaGa and Wyclef Jean.
