Silver Mt. Zion returning with new album in March
Long band names, long song names, long, orchestral rock pieces: it’s all about being big for Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La-Band, the collective once known simply as A Silver Mt. Zion which features three members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The group will release its next epic work, 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons, March 25 via Constellation Records. It’s the band’s first new full-length since 2005’s Horses in the Sky, although SMZ has kept busy since then with EPs, tours, and collaborations with the likes of Vic Chesnutt and Carla Bozulich. 13 Blues features four sprawling songs: “1,000,000 Died to Make This Sound,” the title track, “Black Waters Blowed/Engine Broke Blues,” and “BlindBlindBlind.” The band is expected to tour in support of the album around the time of its release.
