David Berman is a restless man. The Silver Jews frontman has just released a new record, Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea, and is touring to support the record. But he’s also heavily involved in promoting a new documentary feature about the group, titled Silver Jew, which was shot back in 2006. The film was lensed on the Jews’ trip to Israel to support the Tanglewood Numbers album, and is due for release on September 23 on Drag City.
Silver Jew was shot by filmmaker Michael Tully, who claims their Tel Aviv show at the Patiphone club was “one of the most electrifying shows I've ever been to. It was like a sing-a-long, with kids jumping up and down and dancing the entire time.” Meanwhile, Drag City has opened up a competition for people to send in their cover versions of songs from Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea. Prospective entrants should capture their versions on QuickTime video and e-mail them to nicole@dragcity.com. [Pitchfork]
