Sigur Rós frontman Jón Þór Birgisson (known to fans as Jónsi) has been involved in side dealings—mostly of the artistic persuasion—with his partner Alex Somers for some time now, and they've announced they'll be releasing their first instrumental album in July. The title, Riceboy Sleeps , is also the name under which the duo exhibits their art; but the album is being released under their names. Pitchfork has the specifics:
The 68-minute LP does feature nine tracks "played solely on acoustic instruments in Iceland (and featuring long-time string collaborators Amiina, as well as the Kopavogsdaetur choir) and then endlessly toyed with on solar-powered laptops in a raw food commune in some far corner of Hawaii," according to a press release.
Videos for two of the tracks are up on Alex and Jónsi's web site . The album will be available July 20 in Europe; no word yet on a US release date.
