Last month, Minneapolis pop band Sick of Sarah announced that they were just going to be releasing their new album on BitTorrent, instead of releasing it physically at all. BitTorrent rolled out a carpet for the band, creating Featured Artists, essentially a BitTorrent record label. It turns out that strategy worked: Sick of Sarah’s album, 2205, has been downloaded more than one million times. Those numbers are sort of inflated–anyone who downloaded uTorrent or Mainline got the album too–but it’s still a massive number for a small band. The group is hoping that this will translate into bigger tours, but results on that front are a ways off. [HypeBot]
