It's been one hell of a year for Canadian foursome Shapes and Sizes. After signing to Asthmatic Kitty in May, the band released its self-titled debut and subsequently ventured on tours with the likes of Silver Jews, Architecture in Helsinki and Frog Eyes. Turns out these crazy canucks were just getting started though. The band is currently relocating to Montreal (surprise, surprise) from Vancouver and will be releasing its next album sometime next Spring. On top of all this, Shapes and Sizes will be releasing a split 7" with The Weird Weeds. The disc will be the first installment of Asthmatic Kitty's Unusual Animals series, which brings together unlikely pairings of artists to record some experimental fare. Other releases planned for the series include splits by Castanets/Dirty Projectors and Half-Handed Cloud/Ariel Pink. The inaugural release will be made available January 23, but in the meantime, you can stream both tracks by clicking here. Finally, the band is touring throughout December! Getting out of Montreal during the winter is never a bad idea, so I have to admit I'm a little jealous.
