Crazy commie concerts coming to L.A.

Via Billboard:
This has to be one of the oddest yet interesting concert announcements I've seen in a long time. The Los Angeles Philharmonic's upcoming "Shadow of Stalin" series will include not just performances of orchestral music from the time of Stalin's reign. It will also include a handful of appearances by an eclectic array of modern musicians. May 24 brings the radically diverse pairing of DeVotchka and Saul Williams to L.A.'s iconic Disney Concert Hall. Then on May 26, things get even more intriguing. That evening brings a show billed as "Pravda," with the likes of Cut Chemist, DJ Spooky, Peanut Butter Wolf, Amon Tobin, and J-Rocc collaborating on remixing music from Russian composers such as Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Their music will be accompanied by footage of old Soviet propaganda films as well as other artistic endeavors. All of this will be followed by a midnight show from organist Christopher Bull and a ten-piece Theremin orchestra. The series is meant to "explore the influence of political oppression on artistic expression in the Soviet Union during the era of Joseph Stalin. Head here for more details and ticket info.
