At any given moment in time, there are an incalculable number of truly amazing acts – genuine talents – that labels simply haven't discovered or don't think they can properly sell. It can be a tough road to how, laboring in obscurity (and at uninspiring office and service industry day jobs), but part of the beauty of the Internet is the effect it's had on the power of labels (diminished) and the ability of bands to put themselves "out there" (increased). eMusic is helping the process along with a compilation that includes 16 handpicked tracks from almost exclusively unsigned artists (the only exceptions are Obits (Sub Pop) and Deastro (Ghostly)). Selected + Collected compiles music from the achingly pretty minimalism of Bow Ribbons to the retro electro/post-punk of Berlin's Eagle Boston to the lo-fi blues inflected warmth of she keeps bees. For a sneak peep, download below "Weirder Nightmare," the shimmying, shimmering power and punk poppish contribution from NYC's totally underrated My Teenage Stride.
