Scotty McCreery Tops Billboard, First ‘American Idol’ Winner To Do So Since 2003 (Feist Hits The Top Ten, Too)

In case you were ready to write off any lingering impact of the American Idol media juggernaut, know this: Last year’s winner, Scotty McCreery, has topped Billboard this week, as his debut LP, Clear as Day, moved 198,000 copies in its first week. McCreery is the first American Idol winner to top the charts since 2003, when Ruben Studdard had his debut hit number one.

Elsewhere on the charts, Feist hits number eight (with 34,000 sold) with her third LP, Metals, while Adele improbably leaps back up to number two, selling 110,000 copies of her nearly four million selling 21. For more chart news, head to Hits Daily Double.
