It’s not often that Howard Stern discusses the work of prominent figures from the Chicago noise-rock scene. But that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday, as Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland spoke to Stern about his plans to record a second solo album with the noted engineer, poker fiend, and occasional writer, Steve Albini. Let’s hope that Stern extends his interest to open up discussions on the prospects of a Jesus Lizard reunion and the far-reaching influence of Naked Raygun’s Basement Screams.
Weiland is planning to record the album alongside No Doubt drummer Adrian Young, who joined the former Velvet Revolver frontman on Stern’s show. Clearly working with Slash and Duff McKagen has forced the singer to scurry around for some indie-rock credibility, although this is somewhat tempered by the forthcoming STP reunion.
As for Albini, the fee should fuel a few of his legendary poker sessions and allow him to buy a few new microphones for his Electrical Audio studio. And Weiland will be in good company on the “corporate rock” section of Albini’s resume, which includes work with Bush, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
righteous. His 1st solo album was very cool.
