Scarlett Johansson had a listening party yesterday for journalists to hear her Tom Waits covers album, "Anywhere I Lay My Head," at Joe's Pub in New York. It seems like quite a big marketing/P.R. to-do for someone who's never released an album before. But then again it is Scarlett Johansson, it is produced by TV On The Radio's David Sitek, and she did get David Bowie to do some guest vocals. Bring on the Hollywood-esque press junket!
Sitek told the audience that he was going for a "cough medicine/Tinker Bell" vibe" in terms of sound. Billboard adds that "there are some up-tempo departures, particularly on "I Don't Want to Grow Up," which boasts drum machine beats straight out of a New Order song."
As we previously reported, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of Celebration can be found throughout the record that consists of ten Waits covers and one original. Atco/Rhino will release it on May 20. [Billboard]
