Scarlett Johannson to release Tom Waits cover album

Usually it’s the other way around: the musician crosses over into acting. One needs to look no further than Tom Waits, himself, (“Short Cuts,” “Down By Law,” “Rumble Fish,” to name a few) as evidence. But when it comes to crossing over – whether it’s from film to music or vice versa – it’s not always the smart move (see Carey, Mariah, "Glitter)

But you must admit, Johannson’s first outing looks promising. Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and Celebration’s Sean Antanaitis collaborated, and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek produced. Plus she’s got that whole smoky voice thing working for her. And she got her feet wet onstage at Coachella with the Jesus & Mary Chain. Like, how can she fail?

The album will consist of 10 Waits covers and one original and is slated for release on May 20. [Billboard]

She should put it out the same day as Zooey D. That way they can have a Kanye/50 thing going on. My money's on Zooey.

even if this is moderately good its a huge waste of time. not even her intense hotness can make me excited about this record.
