UPDATE: A publicist for Santi White reports that Santogold is NOT changing her stage name. She is still Santogold artistically. It seems mtvU may have made a mistake by listing White as "Santi" instead of "Santogold" on their press release.
Santogold, AKA, Santi White, has apparently reverted to using her real first name as a stage name. In a press release for the mtvU awards, they have her performing under Santi, with no reason given for the name switcheroo.
One possible explanation is that the name “Santo Gold” has been in use for years by an actor/infomercial don Santo Rigatuso, who has been threatening to sue Santogold for copyright infringement (and presumably to get some of that sweet commercial placement money she’s raking in). What this means for Rigatuso’s lawsuit is unclear, but this definitely cleans up whether or not you should refer to White by her name or by her stage name. [Stereogum]
