As California burns, concerts get canned
With property losses and evacuations racking up, concert cancellations may seem like small fries in the wake of the ongoing spate of Southern California wildfires. But that has been one of the consequences of the situation. Music fans in the San Diego area are finding themselves the most affected. Yesterday saw the axing of scheduled shows by Earlimart and Mum. Today it will be a no go for planned concerts by the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Aggrolites, and the Pack. And for tomorrow, San Diego venue the Casbah has already announced that a Melvins gig won't be happening.

These fires are getting really damn scary. I stepped outside a few minutes ago for a walk and looking to the north, the sky's blue, but looking south it's slightly orangey-brown. It's ridiculously hot today and smells of burning. And then there's this: http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070030463&ch=10/24/2007%2010:32:00%20AM |

Yeah, the aura around here in apocalyptic. I was in Ventura County on Sunday and there was ash falling from the sky like snow. |

No kidding? Crap, my grandma lives in Ventura. |

Don't worry! FEMA won't let you down this time. Michael Chertoff will trot out his soft shoe routine if he has to. Your government is working for you!
